About Us

NU-Housing Initiatives was founded on April 10, 2004 by Victor Seltzer, Ph.D. and Mark Hill, D.O.  Dr. Seltzer and Dr. Hill decided to start the organization after working with so many homeless families and single adults and observing all the issues these homeless populations' present.  Together, Dr. Seltzer and Dr. Hill have over twenty years of experience of working with homeless populations in New York City.

Dr. Seltzer has assisted in the creation, funding and development of several homeless and HIV/AIDS organizations in New York City. His work has supported non-profit and community-based organizations in operating several housing programs and other related services for homeless persons in New York City.  Because of Dr. Seltzer's dedication in human services, one of the housing programs he developed in Brooklyn, New York for single homeless men living with HIV/AIDS -- "Victor's Place", located at 624 Ashford Street, was named in his honor.

Dr. Mark Hill is a family physician, who has worked with the homeless population and patients affected/ infected with HIV/AIDS viral infection for six years.Upon completing his medical degree in 2000, from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, he began his residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York where he served as Chief Resident.

During Dr. Hill's four years in New York City, he has lead planning discharge teams to help ensure that patients have adequate follow up and obtain the necessary benefits needed prior to being discharged from the hospital. Many of his patients, who were homeless, required assistance with temporary shelter, food, medication, and proper medical follow-up, upon discharge.Upon completion of his residency training, he decided to stayNew York City and continue working in the South Bronx to help ensure adequate access to medical care by all.Dr. Hill has been a research team member in several studies assessing the barriers that many people face in obtaining health care.
